Payroll giving

A great way to support DEBRA

Payroll giving is tax efficient and makes a big difference to our work. Regular donations help ensure that we can plan our research, healthcare and community support commitments with ambitious outcomes, really helping improve life for the EB community now and in the future.

The amount of tax relief depends on the level of tax you pay. Please visit the gov.uk website for more information.

Please contact our Fundraising Team via [email protected] if you have any questions.

For employees

Contact your employer to sign up to payroll giving. If they do not have a scheme, they just need to register with an HMRC approved payroll giving agency to get started.

  • Effortless giving – everything happens automatically each month once you've signed up!
  • Tax free – your donations are taken before tax, so a £10 donation to DEBRA will only cost you £8 if you are a standard rate tax payer
  • Reduced admin work for DEBRA - payroll giving automatically includes tax, so we don’t need to claim gift aid (if you are giving by any other means though please remember to fill in a gift aid form if you pay enough tax)
  • Changing jobs - your donations will automatically stop so remember to sign up with your new employer
  • Retirement - check with your employer as some employers run the scheme on pensions
  • Match funding - your employer might match your donations, be sure to check with them as if they don’t already they might do if you suggest it!

For employers

  • Show your CSR - embrace payroll giving to help show that you are a caring company
  • Improve staff motivation - once set up it is not labour intensive
  • Boost staff morale - match their donations each month
  • Aim for excellence - aim to receive a Government-endorsed Payroll Giving Quality Mark
  • Make a difference today - register your company with an HMRC approved payroll giving agency and promote it to staff

Difference payroll giving could make to our community support work

  • 60 people giving £5 a month for a year = Potential to support 14 families
  • 60 people giving £10 a month for a year = Potential to support 27 families

Jamie White, DEBRA Member

"My son Jamie has generalised severe EB. He was born with no skin on his feet, knees and hands and even where there was intact skin, it blistered. It was so hard to bond - I didn’t hold my baby for the first six months. He is the first person in my family to have EB so it came as an enormous shock.

The most difficult thing about EB is seeing your child in pain, knowing that the care you are giving is causing so much distress. The community support I have received from DEBRA has been outstanding and makes a real difference."

Katie White, mother of Jamie White living with EB
