Five women dressed in blue Great Ormond Street Hospital uniforms smile

In just 2 weeks, on the 15th July, a team of EB specialist nurses from Great Ormond Street Hospital will be joining #TeamDEBRA for an exhilarating skydive, raising money to stop the pain for people living with EB.

The team have been inspired to take on this challenge by the determination and spirit of the patients they meet living with EB, and their families.

Here's what the team had to say about taking part!

Janet

I have been with the EB team at GOSH for three years now. I have had the privilege to meet some incredible children and their families, who have to face so much in their everyday lives. It is fair to say I will be way out of my comfort zone jumping out of a plane, but compared to what our children and their families go through every day, it really isn’t too much to ask! You may just have to remind me of that on the day! I hope that we can raise awareness of EB, and show that for all people, young and old, with every type of EB that we care passionately about EB. We hope to raise money for DEBRA so that anybody suffering with EB can get the support they need and truly deserve.

Sophie

Having done a skydive before I know what to expect! But this didn’t stop me from signing up… and I managed to rope in the rest of the team too! I am jumping to raise awareness of Epidermolysis Bullosa and how it affects both children and adults alike. EB is a life long condition with no cure and impacts our patients in every aspect of their lives, I feel very privileged to look after our patients and work closely with DEBRA to ensure they receive the best support and care we can offer.

Rebecca

I have only been in the team for a short time but working with children with such an awful, painful condition has made me want to do anything possible to raise awareness of EB. EB impacts every minute of everyday life so my hopes for the future is they find a way of stopping the pain these children, adults and families have to experience everyday.

Katie

As a team we are going to put ourselves out of our comfort zones jumping out of a plane to raise awareness for EB. I have had the privilege to work with some of these children and families and they truly are incredible. I have seen some of the challenges that they face every day and unfortunately there is no cure. It would be amazing to raise as much money as possible for DEBRA to give them as much support as we can.

We'd like to thank the GOSH nurses not only for taking on this challenge to raise funds for DEBRA, but for their commitment to delivering outstanding care to the EB community.

They have raised nearly £4,000 to date (30th June) towards our A Life Free of Pain appeal.

Good luck ladies!
