DEBRA UK advocate for EB at Scottish Parliament Reception

Seven people, dressed in business and smart casual attire, stand side by side indoors in front of a wall with wooden and black panel designs at the Scottish Parliament, with a digital clock showing 17:36.

On 12 November, DEBRA UK held a reception at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. The objective of the event, which was kindly sponsored by Bob Dorris MSP for Glasgow, Maryhill and Springburn, was to share the results of the EB Priority Setting Partnership, an important new global study which has identified the research priorities for each of the four main types of EB.

During the evening there were speeches from DEBRA member and ambassador, Lucy Beal Lott, and Vice President, Graeme Souness CBE, who both spoke about the challenges of accessing specialist EB healthcare in Scotland. There were also speeches from leading dermatologist, Professor Richard Weller, and Dr Oliva Hughes, who spoke about a forthcoming new resource that will launch early next year to support EB families with mental wellbeing.

We were delighted that the Scottish Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health, Jenni Minto, joined us and reconfirmed her commitment to work with us to help improve access to specialist healthcare support for the EB community in Scotland. It was also very encouraging to see other Ministers in the room.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to our sponsor, to our speakers on the evening, and to our members and guests from across Scotland who joined us.
