Scott Brown becomes an ambassador for DEBRA UK
We are delighted to be able to count on the support of Scott Brown, the former Scotland international and Celtic FC midfielder as an official DEBRA UK Ambassador.
Scott had a glittering playing career which included fourteen seasons with the hoops, eleven as captain, where he won the Scottish Premiership title ten times, and the Scottish cup and Scottish league cup six times each. Scott also won the Scottish cup with Hibernian and played over fifty times for the senior Scottish national team.
Now that Scott has hung up his playing boots, he is transitioning to a new career in football management with Scottish Championship side Ayr United. However, if that wasn’t enough, he also wants to play his part to help stop the pain of EB.
Commenting on his appointment as an official DEBRA UK Ambassador, Scott said:
“I went along with Graeme Souness, who is a DEBRA UK Vice President, to their charity dinner at the Glasgow Hilton for the first time a few months ago. I had heard of EB; however, I had never really heard anything in depth about it.
To see Graeme go up on stage and speak so openly about what it means to him and what he has done to bring awareness to this condition and support for the charity really inspired me. To see him almost break down on stage with little Isla and see their bond together, him going up north to see her and calling her his wee pal, it meant a lot.
I’m not going to lie, when he was speaking about it, I thought ‘there is a soft side to Graeme!
I can’t imagine what it would be like if it was one of my children going through this. To see what these families go through day to day, how mums and dads can hardly even give their children a cuddle, is heartbreaking, and so if I can help someone else’s child by putting a smile on their face or doing something to bring money into the charity or raise awareness, every little bit helps.
I am delighted to be an ambassador for DEBRA UK, and I will do whatever I can to BE the difference for EB.”
We are very grateful to be able to count on Scott’s support as a member of Team DEBRA and we were delighted that he joined us on Thursday (18th July) to help launch our newest DEBRA UK shop in Ayr.
Commenting on the opening of the new shop, Scott said:
“It was excellent to visit the new DEBRA UK store in Ayr to find out more about how the pre-loved items they sell within their shops are so important to support the funding of life-changing research, specialist healthcare, and much more to support the EB community.”
