DEBRA's 100km Challenge to #FightEB raises £10,300 with just a week to go

We’re proud to announce that the DEBRA 100km Challenge to #FightEB has raised an incredible £10,300 with just one week left to go.

The #FightEB 100km challenge launched in August calling on everyone everywhere to run, walk, cycle, jog or wheel the distance of 100km throughout the month to help raise vital awareness of EB and crucial funding to support the 5,000 people living with EB which currently has no cure.

We have been so impressed by all of the efforts of those who have taken part so far like Hannah West, who is walking her 100km and has gone the extra mile and dyed her hair purple in support of DEBRA.

“EB has a huge impact on my family. My eldest daughter Charlotte has the condition and not a day goes by when she doesn't have a new injury to her skin which is really debilitating. The support DEBRA offers our family is outstanding. Through DEBRA, Charlotte has met other children with EB and has made some firm friends who understand what she is experiencing day to day. We are really excited to participate as a family in the #FightEB 100km challenge. It’s wonderful to be able to show our appreciation to DEBRA and to raise awareness of this awful condition.”

Amy Coote has EB Simplex and challenged herself to cycle 100 miles a day around Lincolnshire after the 2020 RideLondon event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“I have loved training to complete the event for DEBRA UK, even though the main RideLondon was cancelled. Cycling has now become a passion of mine for sure and it hasn't affected my EB Simplex once. Thanks for all the donations, they are greatly appreciated.”

Lisa Faiers and Jane Pengelly are taking on the challenge for Lisa’s great-niece Darcy, who has Dystrophic EB.

“I am doing this for Darcy and others with EB for DEBRA UK because we hope to one day have a cure for this condition. If I could raise £230 it would be enough to help a DEBRA member for a whole year and obviously any more than that would be absolutely amazing. This will be a massive challenge for me so I’m relying on my family and friends to go for walks, maybe jog or cycle rides to enable me to complete the 100km during the month of August.”

It's not too late to join, you can cycle, run, walk or wheel the 100km and raising just £115 is enough to support a person with EB for 6 months through DEBRA support services. Thank you to all who have taken part, the funds you’ve raised from the challenge will make a huge difference to people living with the painful genetic skin condition, EB, providing vital food supplies, assisting with other financial issues, securing dressing supplies and supporting mental health and wellbeing.
