DEBRA joins Christmas Challenge aiming to double Supporters gifts

DEBRA UK is gearing up to double supporters’ Christmas donations by taking part in the UK’s biggest match funding campaign, The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2019.

Now in its 12th year, The Christmas Challenge launches at midday on 3rd December (Giving Tuesday) and runs for just seven days, until 10th December 2019. Throughout the week, participating charities will see supporters’ donations matched (up to £50,000 per organisation), doubling the impact of their gifts.

At Christmas, perhaps more than any other time of year, families of children with EB are hoping they won’t have to face any additional suffering because of their condition.

The EB Nursing Team at Great Ormond Street (GOSH) have a huge part to play in making this happen, giving children the specialist care they need to enjoy the festive season without too much pain and discomfort. This includes being there for families in an emergency or when they need advice, making home visits to ensure they have support with wound and infection control and ensuring children have specialist nutritional advice, which improves their health and wellbeing, promotes vital wound-healing and boosts immunity. This is particularly important around the Christmas period where their condition makes them more susceptible to debilitating infections and viruses.

We need your help

It costs DEBRA £98,138 a year to fund the EB enhanced nursing service at GOSH and you could help by donating to our Big Give Christmas Appeal.

Not only will your donation go directly towards funding this vital service, every penny up to sixteen thousand pounds will be match-funded by Candis Healthcare magazine and a selection of DEBRA’s key supporters. This means your donation could be doubled!

The Appeal will run online from 12pm (midday) Tues 3rd December – 12pm Tues 10th December.

  • £268 would cover the cost of EB Nursing at GOSH for 1 day
  • £1,887 would cover a whole week
  • £8,178 would deliver the service for the whole of the Christmas period.

Your donation will ensure that at least 450 children with EB have access to the care they need for a healthier, happier Christmas.

"A life without DEBRA would be a life filled with even more pain and we want to ensure that DEBRA is able to support other families affected by this debilitating disease, particularly the extra EB nursing support we received when Alisa was first born."Joe whose daughter Alisa who has Generalised Intermediate Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa
