Stay cool in the heat: top tips

When you have EB, hot weather makes the blistering so much worse. Here are our top tips for staying cool in the heat!

  • Heat rises so stay cool downstairs
  • Fill a hot water bottle with ice cubes and cuddle it or put it on your feet
  • Get a gel cooling cushion (you can often find these at your local petrol station)
  • Keep your underwear in the fridge, especially socks!
  • Run cold water over pulse points
  • Put your feet in a bowl of cold water
  • Wet a thin scarf or piece of thin cloth and drape it over yourself like a sheet
  • Stay hydrated – keep a jug of water by your bed and another one in the fridge at all times
  • Keep a baking tray with a little water in it in front of a fan to maximise the cooling effect, being careful not to get water on any part of the fan itself
  • Chill out in places with air-conditioning – cinemas and cafés are often good bets
  • Speak to your Community Support Manager for more information about support and specialist equipment that may be available to you, including the support grants we offer
