Anton Edelmann and his star protégés raise over £75,000 for DEBRA

On 8 June 2018, Anton Edelmann gathered five of his most celebrated chef protégés to present a unique 40th anniversary dining experience at The Savoy, raising over £75,000 for DEBRA.

Anton Edelmann, who was maître chef de cuisines at The Savoy for over 20 years and mentor to many of London’s best chefs including Mark Hix, Giorgio Locatelli, Jeff Galvin, William Curley and Holger Jackisch, who all attended and took responsibility for a course of the bespoke menu.  After a fabulous meal and a charity auction, guests danced to live music from the world-class modern pop band Jam Hot.

The dinner was a celebration of everything DEBRA has achieved over the past 40 years. EB sufferer, Myra Ali, who works as a translator for the NHS, spoke eloquently about what it’s like to live with EB and the difference specialist EB nursing can make.

Myra said: “In spite of my EB, I’ve achieved full-time education and been through university. I turn to my EB nurse for advice on how to care for my skin and manage the pain that comes with EB, but the support she offers goes far beyond that. She’s there for me in my hour of need.”

The money raised on Friday will help fight EB and could fund healthcare services for people with EB, such as the the specialist EB nursing service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Specialist nurses are vital to EB sufferers and their families, and DEBRA provides key funding to the service at the children’s hospital.

Our next glamourous dining experience, the DEBRA Great Chefs Dinner, is already set to return to The Langham, London, on 4 February 2019 and will be generously hosted by Michel Roux Jr, a long-term supporter of the charity.

Michel Roux Jr, Chef Patron of Le Gavroche, and the man behind Roux at the Landau and Roux at Parliament Square, says: “When I first heard about EB and the incredible work that DEBRA does, I felt compelled to help. I am honoured to be hosting the Great Chefs Dinner once again this year and continue my long-standing support for DEBRA. The research and support funded by DEBRA is so important to help sufferers and their families have a better quality of life, and I am proud to be involved with this worthwhile event.”

Places for DEBRA’s Great Chefs Dinner on 4 February are limited. Call the Events Team on 01344 771961 or email to book your tickets now.
