Generous Guests and Great Chefs #FightEB

Earlier this week 113 guests came together to support the #FightEB campaign at the DEBRA Great Chefs Dinner, a unique dining experience at one of the most luxurious hotels in the capital, The Langham, London, raising over £85,000!

Six stellar chefs gave their time for free to create a bespoke menu for guests at the glamourous event. Chefs Chris King, Chris Galvin, Jacob Kenedy, Michel Roux Jr, Hywel Jones and Andrew Gravett were each responsible for one course of the delicious meal, and specially paired wines accompanied each delectable course.

Guests also enjoyed live and silent charity auctions which contained many amazing prizes donated by generous sponsors.

EB sufferer James Dunn spoke candidly about his ongoing battle with an aggressive form of skin cancer caused by the condition and his ambition to raise as much money as possible to make a difference for people living with EB through DEBRA’s #FightEB campaign.

The generous contribution raised through the DEBRA Great Chefs Dinner will be donated to the #FightEB campaign, which aims to raise £250,000 by Rare Disease Day on 28 February 2018. Money raised through #FightEB could help provide care and support to people suffering from EB here and now or fund research into effective treatments, and ultimately, a cure for EB.

One DEBRA funded research project that’s offering new hope for the future for many people suffering from EB is a clinical trial to investigate whether a drug, Rigosertib, could be used to reduce or destroy EB cancer tumours which have not responded to conventional treatments.

James Dunn said: “I’m bowled over by the generosity of guests at the Great Chefs Dinner and by the dedication of the chefs – it was really overwhelming to see that many people coming together in support of the EB Community. Their generosity makes a huge difference to so many people suffering from EB. I can’t thank our supporters enough for such a fantastic night.”
