Planning your stay in a DEBRA holiday home

A seaside town with a sandy beach, marina with sailboats, an indoor water slide, and a scenic lake with mountains. Collage of images: a cozy living room, sandy beach, marina with boats, indoor pool with slides, mountain landscape, and lake with trees.
We have DEBRA holiday homes at locations across the U.K.

DEBRA holiday homes are nestled in some of England and Wales most scenic locations and within five-star rated holiday parks that offer a variety of activities and entertainment options allowing members to tailor their stay according to their preferences.

Each holiday home has been designed, as much as possible, to cater for the diverse needs of the EB community and offers not only respite, but an opportunity for families, caregivers, and friends to make memories together.

DEBRA members can secure their stay in a DEBRA holiday home with exclusive, highly discounted rates which can be up to 75% lower than the market rate depending on the time of year.

All DEBRA holiday homes pricing is listed on their individual pages. If you’d like more information, please contact the holiday homes team.

Please check the availability calendars on each holiday home information page to check the dates for low and high season.

For stays shorter than a week during low season, members can enjoy a pro-rata rate, which starts at a minimum charge of £200.

Members booking a holiday for the first time with us are entitled to a discount of 10% off all low season 7-night stays at any of the DEBRA holiday homes.

DEBRA members are entitled to book up to one week’s holiday per year in a DEBRA holiday home subject to availability. At its discretion DEBRA may also consider applications for a booking of a further second separate week for dates in low (off peak) season, again this is subject to availability.

To submit a request to stay in a DEBRA holiday home, please first check the availability calendars for the holiday home that you are interested in, if it is showing availability for the dates you are interested in, then please submit a request to stay by completing the online form. Alternatively, you can book over the phone by ringing the team on 01344 771961 (option 1) or by emailing holidayhomes@debra.org.uk

The holiday homes team will contact you within 7 days to confirm if your selected holiday park and date is available, if so, you will be required to pay a £75 deposit to secure your booking and the balance of your holiday will then be due no less than 8 weeks before your holiday.

Please note arrivals are on a Saturday except for Brynteg, Newquay, and Windermere, which start on a Friday. The maximum occupancy for each home is as stated on the individual home pages; this number cannot be exceeded under any circumstances. Please read the full holiday home booking policy for further information.

Even at the heavily discounted rates that DEBRA offers its holiday homes to members, a holiday away can still be an expensive item when you factor in the cost of the accommodation plus costs associated with travelling there, the cost of food, activities during the holiday etc. We can help though.

DEBRA offers support grants for respite breaks and discounted holidays which can reduce the cost of the holiday even further for members on a low income or for those in difficult financial circumstances.

For more information, please contact the DEBRA Community Support Team.

There are some essential items that you will need to bring with you to ensure a comfortable stay in a DEBRA holiday home. These are items that are not provided within the holiday home and include:

  • Bed linen to include bed sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers, enough for however many beds you and your quests will be using during your stay
  • Towels for the bathroom(s) and towels for the beach if you’re planning a visit
  • Bathroom you’ll definitely need toilet paper, and perhaps a bath or shower mat
  • Kitchen some of our holiday homes have dishwashers but not all and so depending on where you are staying you may need to take dishwasher tablets or washing up liquid, cloths etc, plus general cleaning products for the kitchen
  • Toiletries you will need to bring toiletries, e.g., shower gel, foam bath, shampoo etc. with you, as they’re not provided in the holiday homes

The holiday homes have basic kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery, and pans so you don’t need to take any of those, but you may need cooking oils, sauces etc. if you’re planning on cooking at any point during your stay.

Travel insurance for a holiday in the UK isn’t essential, but it might be worth considering for added peace of mind.

Having travel insurance could help protect your possessions. When holidaying in the UK, it’s easy to take more with you whether that’s laptops, game consoles, bikes etc. Your home insurance may cover these items if anything were to happen to them, accidental damage, theft etc., but sometimes away from home cover isn’t included as standard and so it’s worth checking your policy.

Travel insurance could also cover you if for whatever reason you’ve cannot attend the holiday you have paid upfront for.

Please remember, Weymouth Red 36 and Brynteg are our only holiday homes that accept dogs: one medium or two small dogs per stay during low season weeks only and this carries an additional charge of £60 to cover the cost of a post-pet clean, you’ll also need to check out at the earlier time of 09:30am on the Saturday morning to allow sufficient time for the park to complete the post-pet clean.

So, if you’re not planning to stay in Weymouth Red 36 or Brynteg but prefer one of the other DEBRA holiday homes, then you’ll need to organise care for the furry member of your family while you are away.

We advise all members to check their route prior to setting off and if you are ,travelling by train, check in advance to make sure the train you expect to catch is running and on time!

It is also a good idea to check for any local transport services near the park you are staying in should you need them; you can check on the internet or alternatively reach out to the DEBRA holiday homes team who will be able to help.

Without our supporters we wouldn’t be able to offer such high-quality holiday homes at such heavily discounted rates for the benefit of our members.

We must extend a special thank you to The Brothers Trust who funded our newest holiday home in Newquay in 2023, our first in the southwest of England.

If you want to support DEBRA you can donate or there are many ways to get involved from fundraising, to helping shape our research projects. Find out more.
