DEBRA’s 20th Anniversary Fight Night raises record-breaking amount for the EB community

We are thrilled to announce that DEBRA’s 20th Anniversary Fight Night was our most successful yet, raising over £340,000 to support people living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

On Friday 14 November, we returned to the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, the very venue where Fight Night began two decades ago. The evening was once again championed by legendary boxing manager and DEBRA UK Vice-President Frank Warren, in association with Queensberry Promotions. Guests were joined by boxing legends John Conteh MBE and rising star, Moses Itauma, WBO Intern-Continental Heavyweight Champion.

An evening of inspiration and impact

The night began with a sparkling drinks reception on arrival before guests were welcomed by Ian Stafford, Founder of The Sporting Club and multi-award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster, who served as our MC.

Hugh Thompson, DEBRA UK Director of Fundraising, then stepped into the ring to introduce the evening and shared a powerful video showing how funds raised will transform lives for those living with EB. Frank Warren then took to the stage to share why he continues to support DEBRA and encouraged guests to ‘dig deep’.

To mark his incredible 20 years of support, Tony Byrne, DEBRA UK CEO, presented Frank Warren with a special gift saying:

“The one thing I’d say about Frank, is he epitomises what we need in support. Someone who is an ambassador, and certainly a fantastic Vice President. Why is that Frank? Because you’re just Frank. You’re generous, you wear your heart on your sleeve and you’re consistent.”

Stories that matter

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal whilst hearing from Grace Fincham, DEBRA Ambassador and member. Grace shared her deeply moving story about living with EB and the loss of her brother Freddie, who passed away nearly five years ago:

“EB is not just a skin condition, it is a battle, and it has casualties… I have no idea what it’s like to exist in a world where I don’t feel pain in some part of my body.”

Grace spoke about Freddie’s support during her own health battles, when she spent time in ICU after her heart transplant, and how DEBRA have helped her through challenges:

“Freddie had this immense warmth that lingered, and you could feel it in your soul. My world became so cold when he died… if it wasn’t for DEBRA and the help they provided me during that time, my skin would have gone completely under the radar.”
