What is EB?

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is incredibly painful genetic skin conditions that cause the skin to blister and tear easily. It is skin as fragile as a butterfly’s wing, which is why it is also commonly known as ‘butterfly skin’.

EB can be very visible and affect the whole body, but in the Simplex form (70% of all cases), it can be less visible and only certain areas of the body such as the feet.

EB always leads to excruciating pain and can have a devastating impact on life.

DEBRA’s EB Community Support Team works with the EB community and healthcare professionals to provide support services for families and individuals affected by EB which aim to improve quality of life.
