DEBRA launches new £20 million ‘Stop the Pain’ major appeal
Last week at our Ambassador’s Afternoon event we launched our new £20 million – Stop the Pain major appeal which aims to transform quality of life for people living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
The event was a deeply moving reminder of the hope now within reach — and the painful reality still faced every day by people living with EB.
Our Chair of Trustees, Carly Fields, and Professor John McGrath shared the promise of research, including EB drug repurposing, and the urgent need to secure the next generation of EB researchers and to better understand EB’s most devastating symptoms — pain, itch and inflammation — because behind each is a person, a family and a daily struggle no one should endure.
DEBRA Member and Ambassador Lucy Beal brought that urgency into sharp focus, speaking honestly about skin that can blister and wound from the slightest touch, relentless pain, unbearable itch and fear for the future — reaffirming the need for care and support today, while we work to secure treatments for tomorrow.
Our new President, Graeme Souness CBE, challenged us all to move further and faster.
