Last call for Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge 2007 entries

23 August 2007

Buckinghamshire Dad all set to conquer three Yorkshire peaks to raise funds for son

Jim and Cameron KillmisterLocal people are being urged to take a hike – and raise money for a good cause.

DebRA, the charity for people with the skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), is looking for teams of four adventurers to raise sponsorship and take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

The fundraising event takes place on Saturday 8th September 2007, starting and finishing at Horton in Ribblesdale, and will raise money for DebRA.

DebRA funds research into EB, a rare and currently incurable genetic skin condition, and also provides practical support for EB families. EB is fatal in the most severe cases but even in its mildest form it causes lifelong disability and pain.

The effects of EB were illustrated in the compelling, award-winning, documentary “The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off”, which charted the final months of the very courageous Jonny Kennedy, who died of EB-related cancer.

Jim Killmister, father of 4 year-old Cameron Killmister, who lives with the condition, will be taking part in the event to help raise funds for DebRA. Jim, from Hazlemere, High Wycombe, said: “My son Cameron has Recessive Dystrophic EB which means that his skin is extremely delicate and scars when it heals. Cameron has to have his dressings changed every day, which is very painful, but which he endures with enormous bravery. DebRA relies on fundraising events like this to carry out its vital work, improving lives and giving hope to families like mine.”

Event organiser, Andrew Colville, from DebRA added: “The Three Peaks Challenge is one of our most important fundraising events of the year. The 24 mile trek will undoubtedly be a challenge, but the rewards will be great. Not only will the people taking part enjoy some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery but they will also raise much-needed funds to help improve the lives of the 5,000 children and adults with EB in the UK.”

To take part in the event contact Andrew Colville or Rhian Davies at DebRA on 01344 771961 or email events.team@debra.org.uk.
