DebRA supports families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) - a rare genetic condition which causes the skin to blister and shear at the slightest friction, or even spontaneously. There are at least 5,000 people living with this devastating condition in the UK and 500,000 worldwide.

The donation was the culmination of a series of fundraising activities organised by Sandhurst & Yateley Round Table. Last December, two fundraising collections took place at Waitrose stores in Yateley and Sandhurst and the clubalso held a Christmas float which collected public donations.

Nick Ray, Chairman for Sandhurst & Yateley Round Table, said: “Every year we run local fundraising events and collections to generate funds for use in helping the local community with charitable help and funding. This year we have decided to complement our activities by raisng funds for a locally-based charity, and for 2007/2008 we have nominated the Crowthorne-based charity DebRA.

"We would like to express our thanks to everybody in the Sandhurst & Yateley area who has contributed over the past year and the DebRA members who kindly gave up their time - in freezing temperatures - to assist with our Waitrose collections.”

John Dart, Director of DebRA, added: “The charity relies on fundraising activities like this to carry out its vital work, improving lives and giving hope to families affected by this devastating skin condition. We thank Sandhurst & Yateley Round Table – their efforts will help make a difference to the individuals and families affected by EB.”
