DebRA Fight Night Looks Set To Raise Over £500,000

11 September 2006

A glittering event in central London has raised more than £500,000 for DebRA's work supporting families affected by EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa).

The second DebRA Fight Night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane on Friday September 8 saw stars including Jonathan Ross, James Cracknell, Sir Henry Cooper, Barry McGuigan, Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd and DebRA president Michael Portillo enjoy an evening of dinner, champagne and World Championship boxing in aid of DebRA.

Almost 1,000 people attended the event, which was organised by DebRA and boxing promoter Frank Warren and included a live auction, raffle, a Nurses’ Appeal hosted by Jonathan Ross followed by three bouts.

Early indications show that in excess of £500,000 was raised during the evening. This compares to more than £300,000 for the first DebRA Fight Night last year.

John Taylorson, DebRA’s director of Special Events, said: “Once again the DebRA Fight Night was an amazing success much due to the backing of Frank Warren and Sports Network, the many financial organisations who have provided support and the presence of media personalities such as Jonathan Ross.

“Without exception those who attended enjoyed a wonderful evening of entertainment and boxing.

“We are delighted that over £500,000 has been raised to help the children and adults in our care.”
