Robin Hood actress backs DebRA during CAF National Giving Week
The BBC’s new Maid Marian, actress Lucy Griffiths, is supporting a real life Robin Hood as part of a national charity’s latest campaign.
Lucy is backing the charity DebRA, which supports families affected by the genetic skin blistering condition EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) as part of CAF National Giving Week, which launches on Monday October 16.
DebRA’s Director for Scotland, Robin Hood, is passionate about the cause because his daughter Alex lives with EB, a condition which affects around 5,000 children and adults in the UK alone. DebRA is one of the partner charities in this year’s National Giving Week.
Robin said: “Everyone at DebRA is delighted that Lucy is giving her backing to our cause during CAF National Giving Week.
“We all work hard to ensure that those with EB, who are vulnerable and need our care and support, have the best life possible.
“I’m glad that I now have a Maid Marian to help me and my colleagues at DebRA with our important work.”
Lucy is urging people to donate a CD from their collection to DebRA so that it can be sold in the charity’s chain of fundraising shops. It is hoped that everyone will have at least one CD they no longer listen to, which can be used to raise vital funds for DebRA’s work.
Lucy said: “The theme of National Giving Week is Give It Up For. It aims to encourage people to think about what they can give up for a good cause, whether it is their time as volunteers, their possessions as donations to shops, or their money – perhaps forgoing their Friday night pint and donating the money instead.
“I first supported DebRA when I was at sixth form college. I discovered then how distressing EB is and how important DebRA’s work is. I am delighted to support them during National Giving Week and I would urge everyone to donate a CD or visit www.giveitupfor.org for more ideas on how to help.”
CDs can be posted to DebRA, CD Collection, 209 Epsom Road, Merrow, GU1 2RB or they can be dropped off at your nearest DebRA Shop.
