DebRA Golfing Society

TEE OFF FOR DebRA

Ian Wright at Sunningdale for DebRADebRA boasts one of the largest charity golf societies in the UK.

With Peter Alliss as our Golfing Society President and 350 members across the country, DebRA organises a range of prestigious golf days each year.

With Terry Wogan's help, Peter Alliss was involved in the launch of Golfing Pals - the first global interactive contact site available to golfers everywhere. Golfers can contact fellow players around the world, arrange a game in foreign countries with a local player, get advice on courses, enjoy reduced green fees when playing with a club member and meet up with and make new Golfing Pals.

END OF YEAR NEWSLETTER (by Heather Chandler)

The second half of our golf programme commenced on 23rd August with a second visit to Swinley Forest Golf Club. We had twenty-four players who thoroughly enjoyed the day with rather changeable weather, raising £2,280 for DebRA.Swinley Forest winners

Our next tournament was held at New Zealand Golf Club. It was a superb sunny day but even though fewer teams participated than last year, the day raised over £1,000 for DebRA. It is a fantastic golf course and hard to get to play unless by invitation so make sure you book early for next year!New Zealand Golf Club winners

Once again Little Aston Golf Club was a very popular venue which John Duncombe has arranged for the past six years. There were twenty-two teams and the fantastic sum of £17,000 was raised. Congratulations John!

Ian WrightAfter the disappointment of having to postpone our day at Sunningdale on 5th April, the day went ahead on 23rd October with Ian Wright as our guest.

It was a beautiful sunny day and Sunningdale looked fantastic. Ian was in good form and had photos taken with all the teams and, although he had to leave immediately after playing golf due to his radio commitments, it was nice to see him.

Sunningdale 2007There were eleven teams playing and just over £7,000 was raised. Thanks to everybody who attended and we hope this day will be repeated in 2008.

Arcos Gardens Golf & Country Estate sponsorship

We have been very lucky this year with sponsorship from Arcos Gardens Golf & Country Estate who have provided team prizes for the first three teams at four of our golf days in 2007 namely: London Club, Swinley Forest, Sunningdale and Hankley Common.

The first prize consisted of a trip for four people to stay at Arcos Gardens for two nights B&B and playing the Championship Course with flights included up to the value of €150 per person, plus £500 donation at each event.

We hope this sponsorship will continue in 2008 at various golf days. Please look out for these special days.
