A simple signature could raise £1,000s extra for DebRA
DebRA is urging people to make a massive difference to the charity’s finances – simply by signing their name when they donate furniture to their shops.
Signing up to the new Gift Aid scheme being launched in DebRA’s Crowthorne, Cove and Merrow shops on August 4th allows DebRA to claim an extra 28p for every pound raised through furniture sales.
And while the scheme involves some extra administration for the charity, the member of the public who kindly donates the goods does so at absolutely no extra cost to themselves – and the rewards for the charity could be massive.
Bob McDonald, Director of Retail for DebRA, said: “We have so many generous supporters who donate good quality pieces of furniture, raising a fantastic amount of money for DebRA. Now our supporters can boost those numbers simply by signing their names and confirming they are a UK Taxpayer.
“Every £100 that we raise from furniture sales could then earn the charity an extra £28. That could make such an enormous difference to the work that DebRA does and therefore to the lives of all those living with EB. We are so excited about this scheme and the rewards it could bring to the EB community – we just hope that the public also gets on board and signs up.”
EB is a rare genetic condition which causes the skin to blister and shear at the slightest friction, or even spontaneously. There are at least 5,000 people living with this devastating condition in the UK and 500,000 worldwide.
DebRA provides an expert team of nurses and social care staff to work directly with families affected by EB. The charity also commissions world-leading research into the condition with the aim of finding effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB. Because DebRA receives no government funding, DebRA relies on the generosity of the public to carry out its vital work, improving lives and giving hope.
Furniture donations at the three pilot shops – Crowthorne, Cove and Merrow – will be subject to the Gift Aid scheme from Monday 4th August.
