Calling all London Triathlon triathletes – DebRA needs you!

Ian Wright urges triathletes to sign up for a DebRA charity place

Ian Wright pictured with Dean Anderson who has EBTriathletes who fear they have left it too late for a place at this year’s London Triathlon need not worry as there is still hope in the form of charity allocated places.

DebRA, which is one of the two charities awarded Gold Charity status at The 2008 Mazda London Triathlon is looking for individuals or teams to take part on August 9th and 10th and help make a difference to the lives of families living with EB.

This year's event will again be held at the ExCeL centre, London and competitors have three levels of triathlon to compete in: Super Sprint, Sprint and Olympic. The highest level – Olympic – involves a 1500m swim in the Royal Victoria Docks, followed by a 40k bike ride and 10k run. Last year the annual event attracted some 12,000 competitors.

DebRA supporter Ian Wright is urging people to take part and support the charity which is very close to his heart.

He said: “Sport can change lives in so many ways. The London Triathlon is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in something exciting and challenging – something that really pushes you to your limit, with the added bonus of making a real difference to people’s lives.

“During my time as a DebRA supporter I have met many young people who live with the incredible pain of EB. To see them getting on with their lives with humour and determination is humbling. Please support DebRA at this year’s London Triathlon.”

Andrew Colville, Senior Events Manager at DebRA, added: “Running for a charity can be extremely rewarding and will certainly help you to remain focused and motivated. We welcome first time and experienced triathletes to participate for DebRA and offer the best possible support.

“Last year 120 triathletes raised over £80,000 for DebRA and we’re hoping that 2008 will prove to be another fantastic triathlon year for DebRA. We rely on fundraising events like the London Triathlon to carry out vital work, improving lives and giving hope to families affected by this devastating skin condition.”
